Just a quick note about the upcoming Montgomery Half Marathon–

Joy to Life is honored once again to receive the proceeds from the Half. That means more dollars for mammograms, education and awareness throughout our State!

This is where you come in! What do ya’ll think about creating a “Joy to Life Team” for the 5K Walk (3.2 miles) portion of the Half? The more people we get involved means more money to help more women in Alabama! I need your comments! Let me know what you think about a “Joy to Life Team” ASAP!

Coincidentally, the Half is October 1^st–the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  What better way to “kickoff” the month than with all of our supporters walking together!

We had a great time at Menopause: The Musical!   Tuesdays were Joy to Life “Pink Nights” during the run of the play at Alabama Shakespeare Festival. The pink martini’s and pink cupcakes before the show were a big hit! After an hour of pink drinks and pink sweets, everybody was ready to party and have a night of outrageous entertainment. If you haven’t seen Menopause, you’re really missing something!

For the most part everyone was dressed in pink; Survivors came from far and wide to celebrate. Nineteen-year Survivor Marilyn Deames and her girlfriends were there from Destin, Florida–and she won our Pink Trash Can give-a-way! Maybe now our pink trash cans will be spotted in the Sunshine State!

Another personal hero of mine was there –Jeanette Crook. She has been battling breast cancer since the mid nineties. She is fun and fabulous, brave and inspiring and most of all, a role model to so many!

Joy to Life is truly grateful to ASF for our partnership and we always appreciate the fantastic support from all of you!

We meet and talk with people everyday it seems who have been touched in some way by breast cancer. Either they have recently been diagnosed, they are the spouse or a friend of someone who is dealing with breast cancer or they’re a breast cancer survivor.  However breast cancer has affected your life, we want to encourage you in your journey.

The reason we gave our blog the name “To Life” is because it comes from the Yiddish word “l’chaim”.  It’s used mainly during toasts; so much so that at a Jewish celebration, you don’t propose a toast, you propose l’chaim.

We want this blog to simply be a reminder that no matter what you’re going through, life is a celebration and you can always propose l’chaim! To Life!
